My RAAGSAN Consulting Internship: Miski Mohamed Mohamud

My name is Miski Mohamed Mohamud, a recent graduate from Mogadishu University with a degree in Social Work. I participated in the two-month inaugural internship program as a field research assistant intern at RAAGSAN Consulting. My friends enthusiastically told me about an internship opportunity at RAAGSAN Consulting, which they had stumbled upon on Facebook. I decided to apply for this intriguing opportunity. As luck would have it, I was chosen as one of the fortunate few to be part of this exciting journey. Walking through the doors of RAAGSAN as a fresh university graduate, I had a mixture of excitement and nervousness. Little did I know that this internship would become a pivotal chapter in my life, shaping my understanding of social work in ways I could never have imagined.

From day one, it was clear that this experience would be more than just a standard internship. With the guidance and support of the RAAGSAN team, I was introduced to a whole new world of knowledge, skills, and practical experience that went beyond the classroom. One of the highlights of my time at RAAGSAN was the opportunity to engage with the community through one-on-one interviews. This hands-on experience allowed me to truly understand the challenges and aspirations of the people in Mogadishu. Through these interactions, I learned about the community’s needs, effective communication, and the value of interpersonal skills – lessons no textbook could teach me.

But it wasn’t just about the fieldwork; the mentorship and guidance provided were instrumental in helping me develop essential skills that will undoubtedly serve me well in the future. I had the chance to participate in courses that expanded my horizons, from writing compelling case studies to crafting impactful blog posts and reports. These practical skills transformed the theoretical knowledge I gained in university.

Reflecting on this journey, I realize that my acquired skills go far beyond what can be measured in a classroom. I learned the importance of teamwork, collaboration, and critical thinking – essential skills in social work and every aspect of life. I am immensely grateful to RAAGSAN Consulting for providing this invaluable opportunity. The experience I gained here will undoubtedly shape my future endeavors in social work. Thank you, RAAGSAN, for believing in me and allowing me to learn, grow, and make a meaningful impact.
